Hi my name is Caitlin I live in Vermont and I'm a sixth grader this year. I love reading and I'm pretty open minded to whatever books people reccomend. Some of the books I plan on reading this year are:Love That Dog by Sharon Creech, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Betwixt by Tara Bray Smith, and Tunnels by Roderick Gordan and Brian Williams. I would love to read 10 DCFs this year. My favorite thing to do other then reading is jump rope on my trampoline, swimming and skiing. Oh and for you people who live under rocks DCF means it's a Dorthy Canfeild Fisher book. Oh by the way if theres a slash through the name of a book it means I got the chance to read it.

The Great Wide Sea
One of the awesome books I just finished is The Great Wide Sea written by M.H Herlong. This book is about three brothers who have recently lost their mother in a car accident. Now their father is insisting that they go sailing for a year. The father insists that the two oldest boys take a nightly watch-Ben and Dylan along with him. Then one morning Ben realizes that his father didn't wake him up for his watch, and he gets the feeling somethings wrong so he wakes up Dylan. When they can't find their dad they realize the worst has happened. He fell overboard. A storm is on the horizon and Ben and Dylan realize they'll need to sail through it. They make it through the storm and then they get stranded on an island with only the remaining suplies from the ship. Then finally Ben realizes he needs to go for help so he takes the little dinghy. After a while he finds a deep sea fishing boat and takes them back to the island. When they make it back to the island he thinks his brothers are dead because he's been gone for two days. They're just sleeping. Then brothers are finally rescued and taken home. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes an adventure book that keeps you reading until late at night.

The Hunger Games
In The Hunger Gameswritten by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen takes her sisters place in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death against 23 other tributes (a tribute is one of the people chosen to fight in the games). I thought this was really brave and I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do that because I have trouble killing bugs. Along with Katniss, Peeta Mellark is chosen from District 12. When Katniss and Peeta finally make it to the Capitol, they have about three nights of eating more food then they've ever seen. Then they start training for the games-group training (all 24 tributes) and private training (just you) ,they go through interviews, and preparation- which I really don't understand because they're basicly preparing to enter an arena and kill each other. Once in the arena Katniss and Peeta separate, Peeta goes with the careers -I was horrified when I found that out because the careers are just trying to kill Katniss- (careers are what districts 5-12 call the tributes from 1,2,4 and sometimes 3 (they train their whole lives for the games and consider it a honor to be in the games). About half way through the games Katniss teams up with Rue, Rue is a 12 year old from district 11. Unfortunately Rue ends up dead but her murderer gets murdered by Katniss because she's so upset at Rues death I found that touching (in an odd way) but touching all the same. Katniss and Peeta team up after Rue's untimely death. Unfortunately Peeta is seriously injured so Karniss tries to nurse hime back to health she suceeds more or less both of them live but Peeta and Katniss will NEVER be the same. This is an amazing book that I would reccomend to anyone who like a boook with adventure, drama, and suspenseful romance with twists and turns in every chapter.

The Calder Game
I know alot of people who will disagree with me but The Calder Game (in my opinoin) was not a good book. I didn't like that most of the action took place towards the end of the book. In the begining Calder is offered a trip to England with his father. He accepts. When him and his father finally make it to England they discover an Alexander Calder (he is real) sculpture in the town square- The Minotaur. The towns people are not happy about this sculpture being in their town square. Then one night two Calders disapear, ones a boy ones a sculpture. This sounded like a good book when I first got it but then I realized that it just wasn't my kind of book. Now I'm having mixed feelings about this book because Suzanne is reading it to us for library and now I think I like it. I'm so confused! I'm gonna give it a chance though and hope I like it.
The Penderwicks
One of the books I've recently finished is The Penderwicks. This is a book about four sisters, two rabbits, a dog and a boy. In the begining the Penderwick family are renting out a cottage on Cape Cod or at least trying to. They end up at "Arundel". A high class mansion, well thety actully end up in "Arundel's" guest cottage. While exploring Skye (the second oldest Penderwick sister) "bumps" into Jeffery -the owner of "Arundel's" son, unfortunately at the time Skye doesn't realize this. She sends Jane (the third oldest Penderwick sister) over to apologize Jeffery accepts her apology. During this book Rosalind,( the oldest Penderwick sister) Skye, Jane, Batty (the youngest Penderwick sister)and of course the all important Jeffery have many adventures over the three weeks that the Penderwicks are there. This is an AMAZING book (in my opinion) and I would reccomend it to anyone who likes and an humorous adventure.

Shift
Just to get things straight, this is one of the most amazing books EVER (in my opinion). Shift by Jennifer Bradbury is based around two boys who have been best friends since third grade. Chris and Win are known as "Chrisandwin". So it's no surprise to anyone (well except maybe Chris' parents) when the two boys decide to go on a bike treck. From their home in West Virginia all the way to the west coast. They begin their journey the day after the high school graduation. About two weeks into their trip the boys are grocery shopping and Chris discovers that Win has hundred dollar bills rolled into softball size. Naturally Chris wonders why Win is carrying so much money on a two month bike trip and whhy he hasn't been paying for food and what not. Then later in the trip towards the end you get a flat and Win doesn't stop to help you he just keeps rideing along. Then you make it home safe and you think Win does to but what if he doesn't then what happens? Do you go looking for him or just go on with your life? Wait for him to contact you?

Antsy Does Time
Antsy Does Time by Neal Shusterman is one of those books you don't know how to describe. Imagine meeting a kid who tells you he only has 6 months to live. What do you do? Do you donate him a month of your life or just go on with life and forget about it? Well in this amazing book Antsy decides he'll "donate" a month of his life to Gunnar Umlaut. Soon the whole town and school district is in on it. In the end Gunnar gets 50 years. How would you react ,kfgoiftoftd9tygj (my uncle did that) if you were in that position? This is a really good book expecially if you need a good laugh.

Savvy
Savvy byIngrid Law by is an amazing book about a girl named Mibs who go's on this life changeing adventure with two of her brothers, Fish and Samson. And two church friends Will Junior and Bobbi. It's Mibs 13th birthday, a very special day in the family of the Beaumonts, why you may be asking? well I guess you could say it's the day they come of age. So on Mibs 13th birthday, Mibs, Fish and Samson are at the church with Will Junior and Bobbi. Unfortunately a couple days before Mibs' birthday her father is in a serious car accident this is why the children are at the church for Mibs' birthday. Mibs (thinks) she knows just what she needs to do to "wake papa up" so she decides to climb into the back of a bible delivery truck with two of her brothers and Will Junior and Bobbi. They end up right where they need to be. I know this annoys people but I can't write much more without giving the book away so your just gonna have to read the book to find out what happens. Sorry Suzanne I know you don't like that.

The Golliwhopper Games
The Golliwhopper Games is an amazing book writen by Jody Feldman. This is the kind of book that I would eccomend to anybody. In The Golliwhopper Games a boy named Gil takes center stage. After his dad loses his job and the company hosts a game/challenge Gil decides to enter the competition. Mind you this a competition for the "smartes" people ever. If you win this competition you get

Great review Caitlin. Look over it carefully for spelling/grammar stuff. You could also have a classmate help you out with this. I have started a DCF count at the bottom of your page. When I approve your reviews I will change the count. Also, please copy and paste your first review (once it is edited) onto the "Great Wide Sea" page. Keep reading!

Caitlin, you can add a picture-- we just won't have library class this week so if you want to try it out on your own go for it. I bet you can do it! The handout I created to help you is listed (for download) on the sidebar. Good luck!

Caitlin...WOW! you have been busy reading I see. I gave you three more DCFs on your count on the bottom of your page. I did not count Calder Games because I want to wait and see how the books feels 'different' for you as I read it aloud to you all in library. It will be an interesting study on reading to yourself and being read "to"...
