Hi everyone! u can cut and paste your DCF reviews to these links.
If you don't know how to do that ask some one who knows alot about computers.(Caitlin or Suzanne!)
November 2, 2010! New wiki to create and much work to be done! Here is a check list of items that need to be worked on--should you find yourself with some extra time and energy and know-how...
(1) DCF page updated with all new 2010-2011 titles (there is a printed out list in the library under the DCF shelf)
(2) All DCF titles linked to ACTUAL pages (these all need to be created with images of the book cover and author's name)
(3) Personal Pages page needs to be update with new students added and old students deleted-- each name needs to be linked to the actual person's personal page.
(4) Personal intros done, photos uploaded and added (see link below to download instructions before asking me), and FIRST review written!
(October 22) REMINDER: While part of the wiki is about interacting with eachother, remember the point is to talk about and create work that has to do with your reading. This is not the place to simply "chat" with friends. Keep it constructive and keep up the great work!
(Oct 19) I spoke with a group of students today and they expressed some concern over others editing their pages and sometimes changing things the wrong way. Unless we have a class dedicated to peer editing, please put editing suggestions in the comments section of a person's page. Then they can make the changes themselves. While we want to capitalize on the wonderful collaborative nature of the wiki, we also want to make people feel like they have a certain amount of control over their own personal pages. Read lots during the long weekend. I will be flying to Pittsburgh so will be sure to stock my bag with lots of good books!
*****ALSO: forgot how to upload images? download the handout here: wiki_image.cwk
(If you are working from home and have a PC (not a Mac) here are the instructions (for download) in a format that PCs will be able to open: wiki_image_insert.pdf)
(Oct 15) Alright, I think we are finally on our way! The major training is over and now it is time to get into the groove. I hope to see at least one book review by everyone by the end of the day today. You will have the whole library class time to do this and I will give you support if you need it. If you have finished a review and are in the middle of a great book....your job today is to find a quiet space and READ! We want to be careful not to get soo caught up in technology that we forget the good stuff...the BOOKS!
(Oct 8) VERY IMPORTANT: for images on our personal pages we are going to use Flickr (Creative Common). You can search for an image for your page here. Notice the "icon" next to the image-- they all MEAN something about how the author of the images wants it used. We need to honor their wishes, so be sure to look over this carefully. Follow this link to check out the image bank: http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
(Oct 4) Thanks for the comments about the author presentation at the Latchis! It sounded like a good time for you all. We will talk more about it on Thursday in library class. You are all keeping very active on the wiki this week which I love to see. Please do not make any big edits on group pages (ex: front page)...I will claim those as my domain for now. Now it is important to keep reading so you will have new things to post on your pages! As you will see Meghan has been hard at work getting all the DCF pages set up...nice work!
(Sept 29) Hey all you super enthusiastic 5th and 6th graders...I notice you are all really excited about commenting and interacting with eachother here on the wiki! But let's hold off on really informal, one word comments. If you do not understand what someone has written, ask them a direct question. Also, if you want to work on your personal pages on your own time, you are more than welcome. I will keep an eye on everything and comment as I see a need for edits or more information.
